John Edwards Announces for President on 'Daily Show'
Tuesday September 16, 2003
Sen. John Edwards made history when he became the first person ever to announce his presidential candidacy on a TV comedy show. The North Carolina Democrat said he was keeping a promise he made in an interview with "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart last year when he said, with tongue in cheek, "I'm certain you'll be the first person I tell."
Asked why he was announcing his candidacy when it was clear he was already running, Edwards said, "I don't know if you've been following the polls, but I think it will actually be news to most people that I'm running for president of the United States."
Watch as Edwards announces, then finds out "The Daily Show" is fake.
